Sheffield First for Health & Well-being - The Dorothy Dixon-Barrow Award for Tackling Health Inequalities in Sheffield 2006 / 07
This Award invites individual or team approaches to:
--Seek out beyond Sheffield, examples of good practice in the field of inequalities of what works, for whom, in what circumstances and why.
--Examples of new ways of approaching established problems in health inequalities, particularly relating to access, vulnerable groups including black & ethnic minority communities.
The Award
The successful applicant will be given a financial grant (or shared between applicants if more than one). Examples of how the award could be used include:
- support liaison with or travel to other parts of the UK or the world
- fund education or professional development activities for the applicant relating to health inequalities
In 2006/07, applications are particularly welcomed that address the key priorities of Sheffield First for Health and Wellbeing across all age groups.
- The healthy communities and older people Local Area Agreement programmes
- Avoidable emergency admissions
- Use of emergency services
- Self management of chronic conditions
- Infant mortality
- Disability and employment
- Choosing health lifestyle behaviours
Who can apply?
The award scheme is open to all staff working in the NHS, Local Authority or independent sector. Applications may be from teams or from individuals. N.B To avoid future disappointment the award is not designed for the delivery of organisations staff training programmes nor for the employment of individuals to undertake the identified work.

Successful applicants will be informed before the end of November and the agreed grant will be available to spend within the financial year 2006/07.
