Television personality Anna Walker recently took time out
from training for The Games to lend her support to Smoke
Free Sheffield, which encourages all workplaces in the city-
including pubs, restaurants, factories, offices, and leisure
facilities, to make their premises smoke free.
Sheffield-born Anna has joined the newly established Smoke
Free Sheffield advisory group, alongside Adrian Budgen,
Irwin Mitchell Partner; Professor Kevin Channer, Consultant
Cardiologist; Doctor Jennifier Hill, Consultant Respiratory
Physician and Lung Cancer Lead at the Northern General Hospital;
Dr Trevor Cleveland, Consultant Vascular Radiologist and
Callum McKayle, member of the Youth Parliament.
The advisory group, which is made up of local experts from
medical, legal and media backgrounds, will use their specialist
knowledge to act as ambassadors for Smoke Free Sheffield.
Caroline Burrows of Smoke Free Sheffield said: “Nine out
of ten
Sheffield residents believe that all employees have the
right to work in a smoke free environment – and the formation
of our advisory group is another step towards making this
a reality”.
“Major employers such as HSBC, Britannia, Sheffield Town
Hall, Abbey Bank Call Centre and Gripple have already signed
up to the initiative, and we’re sure the advisory group
will encourage even more Sheffield businesses to become
smoke free.”
Anna Walker said: “Smoky environments are really unpleasant
to be in, as well as damaging to your health. I think that
Sheffield is setting an excellent example to the rest of
the country by motivating so many local workplaces to become
smoke free, and I give Smoke Free Sheffield my full support."
Dr Trevor Cleveland, Consultant Vascular Radiologist said:
“I’m
delighted to support Smoke Free Sheffield, as I see the
harmful affects of smoking every working day”.
“Too many of my patients suffer from blocked arteries because
of
smoking, so I’m pleased to lend my support to improving
the health of people in Sheffield.“
